Il progetto ULTRA – The Ultimate fate of TuRbulence from space to laboratory plAsmas, è una collaborazione tra ASI, CNR e Università della Calabria, e si inserisce nella tematica di ricerca relativa alla fisica solare e dell’eliosfera, e si propone di studiare il fenomeno di dissipazione dell’energia e del riscaldamento nei plasmi turbolenti debolmente collisionali, come il vento solare e la magnetosfera terrestre. La comprensione di questi meccanismi è di estrema importanza per migliorare l’efficienza dei reattori a fusione per i plasmi di laboratorio, dove questi fenomeni rappresentano dei termini di perdita di energia non voluta, ed ha forti ricadute anche per lo Space Weather.​

Il progetto di ricerca ULTRA propone un programma di ricerca basato su simulazioni numeriche ad altissima risoluzione ed altamente parallelizzate e su analisi dati di recenti missioni solari (Solar Orbiter e Parker Solar Probe) per lo studio dell’evoluzione del vento solare, e della missione Magnetospheric MultiScale per lo studio dell’interazione del vento solare con la Terra, con forti ricadute per lo Space Weather.

.I risultati del programma di ricerca daranno un importante contributo su temi molto attuali nello scenario scientifico e tecnologico con diverse potenziali applicazioni a grande impatto economico e scientifico: dallo studio della fisica di base dei plasmi, come quello che si prevede di fare anche sulla Luna alla fusione nucleare, che recentemente ha fatto un ulteriore passo in avanti nei laboratori inglesi e americani, senza dimenticare che lo studio dei sistemi complessi è stato premiato con il Nobel. I risultati del progetto si inseriranno, quindi, nel contesto generale della fisica dei plasmi spaziali, con riferimento anche allo Space Weather, ma avranno un forte impatto anche sulla fisica dei plasmi di laboratorio e quindi sui plasmi da fusione.

Agenzia Spaziale Italiana: dimissioni di tre componenti del Consiglio di Amministrazione ‣

La vicepresidente vicaria dell’ASI, prof. avv. Elda Turco Bulgherini, insieme ai consiglieri dott. Stefano Gualandris e avv. Stefano Arcifa, ha rassegnato le proprie dimissioni dal Consiglio di amministrazione dell’Agenzia, determinandone la decadenza e aprendo la strada al commissariamento dell’Ente, rimasto privo della sua figura apicale dopo la prematura scomparsa del presidente Teodoro Valente.
I tre membri del CdA hanno rimesso il proprio mandato per consentire all’Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, che sarà impegnata nei prossimi mesi nella gestione di importanti eventi nazionali, europei e multilaterali, di tornare a operare al più presto nel pieno delle proprie funzioni, con un nuovo presidente e un rinnovato Consiglio di amministrazione.
La situazione e i conseguenti sviluppi istituzionali sono stati oggetto di un’informativa resa ieri, nel corso dell’ultima riunione del Consiglio dei ministri, dal ministro delle Imprese e del Made in Italy, sen. Adolfo Urso, in qualità di Autorità delegata per le Politiche spaziali e aerospaziali.

Dall’Etna alla Luna ‣

Si conclude con successo la campagna di test del rover ETNA, progetto italiano per l’esplorazione lunare, che ha avuto come teatro il monte Etna. Coordinato e finanziato dall’Agenzia Spaziale Italiana  è realizzato da una cordata di imprese guidata da Thales Alenia Space (joint venture Thales e Leonardo) e rientra nel programma Universal Locomotion System (ULS).
