The ESA General Support Technology Program (GSTP) is an optional program of the European Space Agency aimed at converting promising engineering concepts into consolidated products, filling the gap between developed technologies and space missions, through the realization of engineering models, simulators, and in-orbit demonstrators. In particular, the Fly segment of the program is dedicated to the in-orbit demonstration of novel technologies through small satellite platforms. The Italian Space Agency supports several nanosatellite missions in the framework of the ESA/GSTP Fly segment, with strong participation of Italian universities, research centres, and enterprises, also with the role of prime contractors.
