e-INSPECTOR is an ESA in-orbit servicing mission, carried out by a CubeSat, having the goal to inspect a European space debris, for example a dismissed payload adapter of a launcher, and to gather proximity images in order to rebuild shape and dynamics, as well as to exploit these images for relative guidance and navigation chain verification and validation. e-INSPECTOR, being launched as piggyback, will be conceived and designed in order to reach out to a wide range of orbits, thus allowing to change the target next to the launch date, allowing a high degree of robustness and flexibility for the mission.

e-INSPECTOR mission will use a single 12 U CubeSat, equipped with optical heads and imaging sensors in the VIS-NIR-LWIR bands, as well as with a miniaturized propulsion system.

The Italian contribution through the ESA/GSTP Fly program is found in sharing different consolidated skills in the field of active debris removal, formation flying, GNC, also autonomously by exploiting artificial intelligence techniques, as well as of imaging instruments and ground stations. To this aim are involved in the project Politecnico di Milano, Leonardo and LeafSpace, with the electrical propulsion system provided by T4i.
