Mission

The primary goal of the “Edoardo Amaldi” Foundation is to promote and support scientific research aimed at technological transfer, beginning with the space sector, as a fundamental tool for the Country’s economic development and as a source of innovation for the improvement of competitiveness, productivity and employment. The model of reference that inspired the Foundation is the Fraunhofer German Institute, which represents absolute excellence in technological transfer and in applied research.

Similarly to the Fraunhofer Institute, the Foundation will have public and private shareholders and aims to be a virtuous experimental model in which the public contribution is inferior to the private one, a public-private partnership best practice, the objective of which is to make this same model repeatable in other sectors as well as that of aerospace.

The Foundation aims to develop and provide availability of the results of applied research, produced by different public and private players, and to produce internal research activities. This approach, commonly called “open innovation”, on the one hand tends to speed up the acquisition of innovation by SMEs, putting the various researchers from different backgrounds directly in contact with each other, and on the other hand it reduces the costs of Research & Development.

The Foundation’s main activities:

- identifying and networking domestic technological excellences, public or private, as partners in order to build synergies that will strengthen individual characteristics;

- creating a network of complex technological infrastructures that accommodate research and development laboratories and make facilities available (expertise and equipment) in order to generate service flows also for external users;

- creation of a technological transfer accelerator;

- promoter and co-creator of innovative forms of financing in the area of technological transfer.

Legal status: Joint venture foundation
