The IAF was founded in 1951 and is an international non-governmental, non-profit organization, located in Paris.
It aims at promoting space research and the development and application of space activities for purposes of peace and cultural enrichment and as a challenge for the society, and fights to show the quality-of-life benefits stemming from space-related activities to the society.
The ASI has been a member of the IAF since 1989.
