This activity belongs to that part of the initiatives that ASI carries out to promote, develop and disseminate scientific and technological research applied to the space and aerospace field and to favor forms of synergy between research institutions, public administrations, university structures and the business world.

CubeNav is an 18 months implementation agreement between ASI, UNIBO-CIRI AERO and POLIMI dedicated to the development of an integrated architecture of software, hardware and procedures with the task of carrying out navigation operations and determining the orbit and flight dynamics in order to support small satellites missions in deep space. The contribution of the Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Aerospace Research of the University of Bologna will mainly focus on Mission Analysis (MA), Orbit Determination (OD) and Trajectory Control (TC), while the Politecnico di Milano, as a participating institution, will provide its contribution mainly in the areas of Mission Analysis (MA), Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) and Flight Dynamics operations (FDO). The results of this study will be of great interest for their potential use in the context of projects with deep space CubeSat platforms in which the Agency is currently involved, and also in view of possible future involvement in other European/international missions of this typology.
