The Joint Steering Committee meeting was held at the Italian Space Agency headquarters in Rome.

15 June 2023

The Kenyan delegation met with its Italian counterpart for their second Joint Steering Committee (JSC) meeting on June 15 at ASI headquarters. The delegations were composed of representatives of the ministries that in their respective countries are involved in the promotion of national space activities as well as representatives of Italy's and Kenya's space agencies.

The implementation of the new Intergovernmental Agreement between Italy and Kenya regarding the Broglio Space Centre (BSC) in Malindi, Kenya, which came into force on December 16, 2020, has laid the ground for further strengthening the ties between the two countries in the field of space cooperation.

The Intergovernmental Agreement between Italy and Kenya, which both countries ratified, has a 15-year duration and can be renewed.

Cooperation with Kenya plays a fundamental role for Italy as regards space policy. Following the visit the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, paid to BSC, the cooperation with Kenya has become key for Italy and ASI as never before. The Italian Space Agency's 2020-2029 Strategic Vision Document and the 2022-2024 Three-Year Activity Plan are further proof of it.

The works of the second Joint Steering Committee (JSC) have prepared the way to the Joint Council meeting at the Ministerial level, scheduled to take place next July.

At the end of the meeting, the two delegations exchanged gifts.

The Broglio Space Center is portrayed in the picture above.
