1. Workshop Scope

The Multi-Angle Imager for Aerosols (MAIA) is a NASA mission currently in development, in partnership with epidemiologists and health organizations, designed to produce data used in health studies to examine the health effects of various types of air pollution.

NASA and ASI are discussing a possible Italian involvement in implementing the MAIA mission, which could lead to the definition of the mission as cooperation between the US and Italy.

MAIA's primary purpose is to study how different particulate matter in air pollution affects human health, i.e., to analyze the relative amounts of various components that make up the mixtures of airborne particles that we breathe. ASI has a strong interest in collaborating with international space agencies in innovative missions that could enhance the national knowledge of technology and science. The Workshop's scope is to stimulate, collect and discuss the interest and involvement of scientific, industrial, and user communities in this very attractive and challenging opportunity.

Its objectives are therefore to:

- present the characteristics of the MAIA mission, highlighting the opportunities for Italian communities, in case of ASI-NASA cooperation in the mission;

- discuss the potential for cooperation on scientific and health monitoring application of MAIA data, focusing on Italian areas of interest, starting from the results obtained to date in the MAIA simulated data.

The event strongly supports networking opportunities among the various participants and stakeholders, laying the foundations for new research and collaborations in the MAIA mission application fields.

2. Workshop Program
