Far East islands observed by PRISMA

22 April 2024

This PRISMA acquisition shows the Sakhalin Island area in March (late winter). The images are obtained by processing visible bands of the L2D data. The island is located in the Sea of Okhotsk, north of the Japanese archipelago, and is the largest of the Russian nation. In the graphical elaborations one can see coastal waters covered by sea ice, finely fragmented in the eastern area of the acquisition. The areas covered by sea ice are declining due to the warmer temperatures caused by the effects of global warming.
