This composition is obtained by processing a PRISMA image acquired in January 2021 on the Aral Sea area. The panel shows an image in the visible bands and an elaboration of an infrared channel.Once one of the largest lakes in the world, a large portion of the lake, especially in the southern area, has seen significant water level decline and pollution due to overexploitation in agriculture in recent decades. While several states are attempting to reclaim the wetlands in the northern region, the large eastern desert area due to the drying up of the lake is referred to as the Aralkum Desert.
