A new picture by the ASI hyperspectral satellite

18 November 2022

These images are obtained from an acquisition made by PRISMA in September 2021. A composite image in the visible is reported on the left, while an elaboration of a shortwave infrared channel is shown on the right.

This acquisition captured a long portion of the Grand Canyon, a river valley due to the flowing of the Colorado River, in Arizona (USA). The canyon can be identified as the sinuous line running approximately from northwest to the southeastern corner of the area.

The canyon and its surroundings are part of several national parks and Native American reservations, as archeological evidence suggests they inhabited the area for several centuries.

The main gorge and its tributaries are listed among the most visited natural attractions in the world.
