A new image by PRISMA

09 September 2022

The Castelporziano Nature Reserve is an important protected area that extends for 5,892 hectares, located in the southern part of the coast of Latium, near Rome.

A Machine Learning model applied to the PRISMA image of June 27, 2021, exploiting the information contained in both the visible/near infrared and short wave infrared regions, enabled to extract the fire fuel map (according to the classes identified by Anderson’s fuel models) over this area and its surroundings.

This image, a 30 km x 30 km spotlight acquisition of PRISMA, was processed in the framework of the ASI project “Sviluppo di Prodotti Iperspettrali Prototipali Evoluti” whose main objective is the prototyping of a subset of L3 / L4 value-added products to be retrieved by means of hyperspectral data processing. Among the prototypes, Fire Fuel Map aims at extracting fuel maps over vegetated areas.
