A new image by PRISMA

08 April 2022

This image is based on an elaboration of the L2D data for an acquisition of the Suez Canal (Egypt) in July 2020.

The channel connects the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, and it was opened in 1869 under French control to offer a direct route between the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans. In 2021 it was blocked for six days by a grounded container ship.

The area in the upper portion of the image is located near the city of Port Said and features the Mediterranean terminus of the channel. The grid in the right portion of the image shows the presence of extensive fish farming activities.
