The Space Agencies to cooperate in space activities for peaceful purposes

15 October 2020

16 October 2020 - Renewal of bilateral space cooperation for peaceful purposes. This is the goal of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) signed today virtually between the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), represented by their respective Presidents, Giorgio Saccoccia and Yamakawa Hiroshi.

This agreement represents further confirmation of the on-going fruitful collaboration between Italy and Japan that dates back to 2010. In particular, in the Earth Observation sector, with the cooperation relating to the use of radar data from COSMO-SkyMed constellation and Alos-2; in space science, with the CALET project on board the International Space Station (ISS); and in space transportation, with research activities in the field of propulsion for space applications.

With this Agreement, ASI and JAXA wish to extend their collaboration to new sectors of common interest, promoting and supporting the scientific dissemination of space for the benefit of both countries and citizens.
