Second edition
The second edition of the Radiative Transfer School was held in Potenza (June 16-17) as part of the FIT-FORUM project (Forward and Inverse Tools for FORUM), funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) through a Call for Ideas aimed at supporting scientific activities for the development of Earth observation missions.
Hosted by the Department of Engineering of the University of Basilicata, the school featured international speakers who addressed a wide range of topics centered on radiative transfer modeling and its challenges, as well as data analysis related to infrared Earth observation from satellite. In addition to technical lectures, the program included hands-on training on models developed within the FIT-FORUM project, along with interdisciplinary sessions exploring the applications of satellite-based atmospheric observations, their connections to other fields such as space weather and climate modeling, and the dissemination of scientific research results.
The event also provided a valuable opportunity for collaboration and exchange, thanks to the participation of speakers from institutions such as ECMWF, University of Maryland, University of Wisconsin, Imperial College London, and NASA. Experts from those institutions shared recent advancements in their research and models and presented results from various measurement campaigns and missions, including PREFIRE.
The school was a great success in terms of participation, attracting over 40 attendees both in person and online - many of them early-career researchers - and also drawing interest from institutions not directly involved in the FIT-FORUM project.
