The Tarbela dam, located in the Swabi and Haripur districts in Pakistan, controls the water flow in the Indus River valley. The featured image has been prepared from an elaboration of L2D PRISMA data acquired in October 2021.  

The dam reservoir is supplemented by the Himalayan snowmelt and the dam has been operational for over four decades, used for controlling water resources in the region, which is susceptible to monsoonal flow variations.  The Tarbela dam has been generating hydroelectric power since the ‘90s, with future plans for increased power generation capacity.
