As part of the official visit of the Italian President Sergio Mattarella to South Korea, an important agreement was signed for the space sector to intensify cooperation between Italy and South Korea in the field of space science and technology. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Teodoro Valente, President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and Lee Jong-ho, South Korea's Minister of Science and ICT in the presence of Italian President Sergio Mattarella and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol. The MoU was one of the three agreements that were signed between the two countries.

The MoU is designed to strengthen the already well-established relations between Italy and South Korea with a view to developing a strategic partnership and promoting and supporting cooperation between universities, research institutes and businesses in both countries.

In particular, the MoU is to focus on fostering cooperation projects in the following areas: space science and exploration, Earth observation with special attention to environmental monitoring and disaster management, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) tecnology, integrated applications, and the promotion of space sector initiatives for businesses and trade.
