{"id":64301,"date":"2026-07-09T16:09:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T14:09:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.asi.it\/?post_type=tribe_events&p=64301"},"modified":"2026-07-09T16:10:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T14:10:52","slug":"asi-ceos-wgd-international-workshop-on-earth-observation-for-disaster-risk-management","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/www.asi.it\/en\/event\/asi-ceos-wgd-international-workshop-on-earth-observation-for-disaster-risk-management\/","title":{"rendered":"ASI \u2013 CEOS WGD International Workshop on \u201cEarth Observation for Disaster Risk Management\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"One-day thematic workshop at ASI Headquarters in Rome focused on science, operational workflows and best practices in the use of Earth Observation data to support Disaster Risk Management\r\n\r\nThe Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Working Group on Disasters (WGD<\/a>) of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS<\/a>) jointly organise a one-day International Workshop<\/strong> focused on Earth Observation <\/strong>(EO) for Disaster Risk Management <\/strong>(DRM).\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nLocation:<\/strong> ASI Headquarters in Rome, Italy\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nDate:<\/strong> Wednesday 16 September 2026\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nFormat: <\/strong>Hybrid, i.e. both in-presence and from remote connection\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nLanguage:<\/strong> English\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nContext<\/u><\/strong>\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\nEO technologies and data are nowadays established resources to support civil protection<\/strong> activities during emergencies<\/strong> due to natural hazards (e.g. earthquakes<\/strong>, landslides<\/strong>, floods<\/strong>, volcanic eruptions, wildfires<\/strong>) and address all DRM phases (prevention<\/strong>, preparedness<\/strong>, recovery<\/strong> and reconstruction<\/strong>).\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nSeveral organisations and initiatives, at both country and international levels, exploit EO for DRM purposes. To name a few: national services and systems of civil protection, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UN DRR<\/a>) and the Satellite Centre (UNOSAT<\/a>), Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS<\/a>), The International Charter: Space and Major Disasters<\/a>.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nFurthermore, researchers and private companies are continuously developing and demonstrating novel methods and algorithms, prototype thematic products, exploitation platforms and Digital Twins, to help improving current capabilities for dealing with natural disasters. These developments are frequently achieved in the framework of programs run by space agencies, such as the European Space Agency (ESA)\u2019s Global Development Assistance (GDA<\/a>) and Earth Observation for Sustainable Development (EO4SD<\/a>), and ASI\u2019s national downstream programmes.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nInternational cooperation is crucial for DRM and DRR, also to enable more countries and communities in benefitting of EO-based solutions and services.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nIn this context, CEOS WGD plays a key role, given its mandate of sustained coordination of disaster-related activities undertaken by the CEOS Agencies, and as an interface between CEOS and the community of stakeholders and users involved in DRM and DRR.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nScope<\/u><\/strong>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nTaking the chance that ASI will host the 26th<\/sup> CEOS WGD meeting in the week 14-18 September 2026, ASI and WGD organise a one-day international workshop open to national<\/strong> and international<\/strong> institutional<\/strong>, scientific<\/strong> and industrial<\/strong> communities<\/strong>.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe workshop will provide a forum for:\r\n
