Live on ASI&#8217;s YouTube channel\r\n\r\n<!--more-->\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Italian Space Agency, with the support of the National Research Council (CNR), Civil Protection Department, National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), Leonardo Company, Ministry of Defence, Planetek Italia, University of Milano-Bicocca, invites the national and international Earth Observation community (agencies, science, applications and industry sector) to a workshop &#8211; based on invited presentations &#8211; focused on the present and future of imaging spectroscopy from space.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Objectives of the workshop<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hyperspectral technology has significantly improved over the last two decades. The current sensors aboard spaceborne platforms cover wide areas of the Earth\u2019s surface, with unprecedented spectral, spatial and temporal resolutions. Such characteristics enable a wide range of those potential applications, requiring an accurate identification of materials and the measurement of physical parameters. Since the beginning of its operations in 2019, the PRISMA mission has been acquiring hyperspectral data from all over the world, making them available to user community and allowing the study, development and demonstration of such applications. With a view to supporting and speeding up such developments, the ASI has also defined plans related to the promotion of the use of hyperspectral data, with the full involvement of scientific, industrial and application communities. The workshop aims at presenting the ongoing ASI initiatives, along with an overview of similar initiatives carried out by the major international space agencies.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Therefore, the objectives of this Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Workshop 2021 are aimed at consolidating and promoting the use of hyperspectral data in different scientific and applicative domains and increase the visibility of operational and future satellite missions, starting from PRISMA. Such objectives are detailed as follows:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>To present the characteristics and status of the PRISMA \u2013 ASI mission and its second generation PRISMA successor, along with the current and future hyperspectral spaceborne missions promoted and carried out by other major space agencies;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>To discuss the capabilities and opportunities for the scientific and applicative use of hyperspectral data, starting from the results obtained to date in the exploitation of PRISMA data, with a view to exchanging experiences in the hyperspectral domain and identifying together the priority actions to be undertaken.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event also aims at creating a network of opportunities between the various participants and stakeholders, laying the foundation for new research and partnerships in the field of hyperspectral Earth observation.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Program of the workshop<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The presentations are by invitation only. The workshop will be held over two days, four hours a day (the detailed program will be defined at a later stage) and will involve a series of talks, with a concluding \u201cQuestion and Answers\u201d session. The preliminary program for each day is outlined below; the actual time will be defined in order to maximize participation.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Day 1 (4 hours)<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>Welcome, introduction and objectives of the workshop;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>Overview of the operational and future hyperspectral missions;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>Characteristics, status and results of the PRISMA mission, including the main performances, payload and products, data policy and licensing, mission management and activities of the PRISMA advisory working group;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>The PRISMA-SG mission;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>Hyperspectral domain activities and current \/ next hyperspectral space missions carried out by major space agencies;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>Overview of the requirements expressed by the hyperspectral community (including research and development bodies, end users, commercial companies) and of the processes for their collection and assessment.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Day 2 (4 hours)<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>Presentation of the most relevant results on calibration, validation, simulation and exploitation of hyperspectral data products and the related user experiences. Such presentations will report the state of the art, the future challenges and directions in which the research activity in the field of remote-sensed hyperspectral data is orienting, with a view to contributing to the consolidation of the role played by imaging spectroscopy missions in different fields. A particular attention will be paid to the description of the current status and the maturity level to meet user requirements in the application areas (by identifying the Scientific Readiness Level, as applicable). The session is organized around several topics and will be further detailed in the final program;<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\r\n \t<li>Concluding round table \/ \u201cQuestion and Answers\u201d session, with exchange of experiences and identification of the priority actions to be undertaken with regard to the topics related to the PRISMA mission, exploitation of hyperspectral data and opportunities \/ needs for the future satellite missions.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For any information, please do not hesitate to contact <a href=\"mailto:EOworkshop@asi.it\">EOworkshop@asi.it<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How to participate<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Participation is free, upon registration.
