Only a sharp eye allows you to see both <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of them <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">so an ancient Persian text of the tenth century<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> narrates <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">watchmen<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and soldiers who were <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">accurately <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">chosen among those able to distinguish the two stars. And <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">exactly<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> from this anecdote <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">it <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">was born the idea of \u200b\u200b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">naming<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> one of the most innovative programs of the Italian Space Agency<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Alcor<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">as it represents <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a program that looks far ahead<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to that future of space characterized <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">more and more <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">by <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">interest in small satellites, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">called <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nanosatellites<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, which weight <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a couple of tens of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">kilograms<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">as opposed to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the tons of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">traditional satellites<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">The attention towards this class of satellites has grown over the years, based on a series of factors which, working in synergy, have made their construction, launch<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and operations<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> increasingly feasible and economical. In particular, it is worth mentioning the miniaturization of components and subsystems, the development of the CubeSat standard, the use of commercial components (COTS)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the availability of <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">more frequent and economic launch opportunities thanks to the development of commercial <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">space transportation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Alcor was born from the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating an ongoing program dedicated to nanosatellites, aimed at placing our space community in a position of leadership<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> both at<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> European and international level, which acts as a technological incubator giving the opportunity to those with new ideas or those <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that are<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> looking for new services, to develop at least the first prototype in order to then be able to carry on <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">their business<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in a strongly <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201ccustomer-oriented<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8221; One of these initiatives (CUBENAV) has already been launched, in partnership with the University of Bologna and the Polytechnic of Milan and will end in 2023.
