e-geos will market COSMO-SkyMed data

The ASI-Telespazio joint venture presented today in London

16 Jul 2008

e-geos, the joint venture established by the Italian Space Agency and Telespazio (Finmeccanica/Thales), will market worldwide the application products of COSMO-Sky-Med, the satellite system for the Earth observation. The company, with headquarters in Rome and in Matera, aims at becoming a global leader in the geospatial information sector, offering solutions, contents and services based on radar (SAR) and optical high-resolution (VHR) data.

e-geos will carry out all Earth observation activities: from data capture and processing, to services and applications supply. In particular, the data obtained from the radar satellites of the Italian constellation COSMO-SkyMed, will allow e-geos to provide operative monitoring services hitherto, thanks to the unique and innovative features of this system.

By 2009, COSMO-SkyMed will have four satellites in orbit (the first two have been launched and are working since 2007), equipped with radar sensors capable of working in every atmospheric condition, day and night, and with very frequent revisit times. Fast and effective application services will then be available for emergency management - such as in case of earthquakes, fires, floods - for environmental protection - in case of landslides, subsidenza, oil spill, pollution - for constant monitoring of natural resources.
