Italian Space Agency represented at the UN space summit meeting by Simonetta Di Pippo

Simonetta Di Pippo's appointment as Director of UNOOSA (United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs) is an important recognition for ASI and Italy of Italian excellence and skills in the space sector.

The Italian astrophysicist, until today Italian Space Agency manager for the Observatory for European Space Policy in Brussels, has had a prestigious career in numerous high ranking positions. Human Flight director at the European Space Agency for three years and special advisor to the ESA Director General, she is now also president and co-founder of the international Women in Aerospace Europe (WIA-E) association.  

Aldo Sandulli, extraordinary commissioner of the Italian Space Agency, commented that “We are particularly proud of this appointment, which will bring further recognition to our country and to ASI. Ms Di Pippo's new position, earned thanks to her renowned professionalism and skills, carries considerable responsibility. Simonetta Di Pippo will be the first Italian and first Western European to hold this prestigious position”.

UNOOSA is a United Nations organisation based in Vienna, and is responsible for UN programs promoting international cooperation in the space sector, operating mainly through COPUOS, the General Assembly committee for pacific use of extra-atmospheric space.
