The fifty-third session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space will be held from 9-18 June 2010 at the United Nation Office at Vienna, Vienna International Center, Vienna, Austria.

The Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space was set up by the General Assembly in 1959 ( resolution 1472 (XIV)) to review the scope of international cooperation in peaceful uses of outer space, to devise programmes in this field to be undertaken under United Nations auspices, to encourage continued research and the dissemination of information on outer space matters, and to study legal problems arising from the exploration of outer space.

Italy takes part to the session with a full-fledge delegation, led by the Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations, Gianni Ghisi, and by the Asi president Enrico Saggese.

The Copuos programme also includes a special event, sponsored by the Italian delegation.

On June 10, Mr Saggese will present ASI activities, followed by the Italian astronauto Maurizio Cheli who will recall his in-orbit experience.
