Video transcript - Ten candles for COSMO-SkyMed. Ten years from the first launch, the 4 fully-operational satellites are today one of the greatest achievements in the international Earth Observation field.

Built in Italy by Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio and commissioned by the Italian Space Agency, in partnership with the Ministry of Defence, COSMO-SkyMed satellites represent the first system in the world designed for dual use, both civil and military. They are prevalently used for managing and preventing environmental disasters, coastaland agricultural monitoring and checking urban buildings.

Thanks to the X-band radars, the constellation can observe our planet both day and night and in any weather conditions, producing images of the areas observed at different resolutions and sizes. In 2018, the four satellites will be joined by another two, more technologically advanced satellites capable of offering even higher performance.
