BETWEEN ASI AND NASA

A new covenant for planetary exploration

the Italian Space Agency and NASA signed an Implementing Arrangement for associate membership in the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI)

On June 14th, at the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC, NASA and ASI, the Italian Space Agency,  signed an Implementing Arrangement for associate membership in the Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI) (on image at left  and at right Enrico Flamini, ASI Chief Scientist. Behind on stand the deputy Ambassador Maurizio Greganti).

SSERVI is managed by the NASA Ames Research Center with a mission of advancing the field of solar system science as applied to human exploration.  In addition to sponsoring research through its domestic teams and engaging the international solar system science community, SSERVI carries out many programs to strengthen the solar system science community and support lunar and small body flight missions.

ASI carries out research activities in the exploration of the solar system that aligns well with SSERVI current efforts, including robotic and human payloads and missions to the Moon, Mars’s moons, and asteroids; basic and applied planetary science and other sciences such as astrophysics enabled by future exploration; the use of terrestrial analogs for science and payload development.

The signature of this agreement will further strengthen the already fruitful cooperation between U.S. and Italy in this field.
