MetOp Satellites – Contact signature

The ceremony in Rome on 10 November 2014

The Italian Space Agency will host on 10 November 2014 the contract signature ceremony for the MetOp-SG (Second Generation) satellite programme.

MetOp-SG is a follow-up programme of the MetOp first generation. It is an European programme for environmental and climatic monitoring, whose aim is to provide a more accurate global weather forecasting.

MetOP-SG is a cooperative undertaking between ESA and EUMETSAT, that started in 2014 and will last until 2042 when the last satellite’s operational life is complete.

This contract signature is a part of a larger agreement signed by ESA and EUMETSAT with Airbus Defence and Space, that will build the satellite platform.

The event, that will start at 10.30 a.m., will be attended by the ASI President Roberto Battiston, the ESA Director of Earth Observation Programmes and Head of ESRIN Volker Liebig and representatives from involved industries and from the Italian Air Force.
