The "Canale Web Aerospaziale" (Aerospace Web Channel) educational programme has been devised to spread the technical - scientific knowledge among young people and facilitate their approach to subjects provided in the courses of scientific faculties, also in consideration of the fact that the number of this type of students is in constant decline in Italy.
In the school year 2003 - 2004 the promoters of the project were the Italian Space Agency and the Italian Center for Aerospace Research (CIRA) which have experimented by the aid of MIUR (the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research) the "Canale Web Aerospaziale" and set up a portal addressed to 50 high schools across the Italian territory.
The 50 Italian schools have received via satellite six training modules as a whole including images and interactive activities. The "Canale Web Aerospaziale" portal (www.spazioallescuole.it), has been implemented giving access to the channel and providing schools and students with a forum for discussions, also fit with an archive of the training modules provided and of an aerospace library and an images gallery.
The project teaching strategies are based on a pragmatic approach which lets the students practically experience the basic scientific phenomena, inducing them to behave and act as true researchers.
The strategy is the following: the students are induced to confront themselves with a complex phenomenon and by adequate guide they are solicited to induce the causes of it. The programmme propose to participants two courses, respectively dedicated to space and aeronautics.
The "Canale Web Aerospaziale" new edition (school year 2012 - 2013) is ready to start. Two additional modules, entirely dedicated to space, and a special contest through the new "Space Adventure" videogame have been produced to enhance the project.
