ASITEL

The company was established on 15 July 2011 and its principal objective is to develop, produce and market services and applications in the satellite telecommunications sector

The main task of ASITEL is to give Italy an institutional presence in the field of satellite telecommunications. It aims to create satellite network infrastructures for data and broadcast transmissions to be used institutionally in sectors of national interest, such as e-government and resolving the digital divide.
In particular, the statutory tasks of ASITEL S.p.A are:
a. to plan, build and market systems, applications and services for satellite telecommunications;
b. to manage plants and services on the ground, as well as the infrastructures for satellite telecommunications;
c. to manage satellite telecommunication plants and infrastructures in orbit;
d. to provide managerial, application and technological consultancy;
e. to plan and develop pilot applications and infrastructures dedicated to satellite telecommunications;
f. to devise and transfer technologies and support competences to technological innovation in the area of satellite telecommunications;
g. to undertake technological research and development in satellite telecommunications, to develop marketing activities, and to directly involve external specialized organizations.
In order to achieve the above the company will be able to draw up agreements with other operators and suppliers of satellite telecommunications services, both nationally and internationally, to acquire company shares.
Furthermore, ASITEL S.p.A. will be able to establish and develop collaborative or conventional relations with regional and provincial state organizations, health authorities, universities and other national public bodies, as well as with parties abroad.

The board of directors of the Italian Space Agency approved the statute of the company on 23 June 2011. The company is wholly owned by the Italian Space Agency and is structured according to the public-private partnership formula, in order to open up a technologically advanced and important sector with a strong commercial value to private bodies.

 

The first balance will be approved in April 2012.
