The application in telemedicine “TELESAL” is aimed at defining a technological architecture, which for operating and managing a broad-band satellite communications system integrated and interoperable with ground communications networks that can ensure the foresee institutional services of Telemedicine, especially in the two specific sectors of operations for emergencies and home care assistance.

The development of telemedicine services is the result of the primary requirements of the national health system, that is:

• Provide quality assistance even distant from hospitals, thus relieving congestion at the same time
• Bring medical assistance and medical-health tele-training to areas which are not adequately covered by ground networks.
• Create health solidarity towards Third World countries.
